Kadlec has an exciting opportunity for a Health Information Technician to join our growing Health Information Management team located in Richland, Washington!
Shift Details: 1.0 FTE, Full time, Days
- High School Diploma or GED from an accredited educational institution required.
Associates degree preferred.
Two years customer support experience preferred.
Two years experience working with personal desktop computers, printers preferred.
One year experience in Health Information Management or equivalent related health care setting and previous experience with electronic patient health systems preferred.
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
As a HI Technician you process a variety of patient records to support the department’s mission to secure and maintain accurate patient health information. Tasks include: customer service both face to face and telephone or correspondence, document capture processing, health information report routing, release of information (ROI), data abstracting and reporting to external entities, maintaining logs, and functions related to billing and collections for ROI.

Abstract data from worksheets or patient health record and submits to the appropriate agencies, via electronic submission or others standard processes.
Retrieve paper health record documents from several locations within the health system for document capture processing.
Maintain knowledge and experience with Epic HIM, HPF, and Microsoft applications.
Maintain knowledge of laws and regulation governing health information; i.e., Joint Commission, CMS, Uniform Health Care Information Act, HIPAA.
Research and resolve issues of finding lost documentation, releasing/clearing export status, and transcription prioritizing job status. Forward necessary information and issues on to management when unable to resolve the problem.
Assist the medical staff with issues regarding their deficiencies and record completion.
Maintain discharge statistics.
Respond to requests for health information following hospital and regulatory compliance requirements; explaining the legal requirements to requestors as needed.
Validate all authorizations, subpoenas, warrants and other legal request for patient information to ensure completeness and compliance to laws and regulations.
Prepare patient records per the request, retrieve microfilmed records, access electronic records and package them for distribution.
Prepares and mails invoices for ROI by category; e.g., physician, attorney, agency requests and maintains database.
Maintain required timeline on completion of work, documentation, records, reports and statistics; follow department policies and procedures regarding documentation of all work performed.
Review system logs for open invoices and request. Contact requestors as necessary and exhaust all resources prior to closing without payment.
Prior to release of information reviews the patient health record to identify specially protected information and handle that information appropriately per regulations.

Perform document capture functions following departmental procedures.
Maintain established productivity standards.
Assist others with responsibilities and adjust work schedule to meet department needs.
Maintain patient, department and employee confidentiality at all times.
Attend and participate in department staff meetings, and mandatory hospital and department in-services.
